About Gladrags
Gladrags first opened its doors in Luton in 1971 by the present owner Ann Webber, and has always prided itself on a reputation of excellence. Customer service, “nothing is to much trouble” being our company motto, coupled with the finest quality merchandise, having contributed to the company’s long standing success in Ladies Retail Fashion.
As each year passed by Gladrags continued to grow, adapt, reassess and reinvent itself by opening its Dunstable store in 1984 and our St Albans Store in 1995, to create a new history.
The Gladrags history started in Luton when Ann Manyweathers, who was only 18 at the time, set up a trendy fashion boutique, buying wholesale clothes from London’s Commercial Road, soon attracting a loyal customer base. In 1986, the current Luton premises where purchased and two shops were converted into one larger shop, with offices on two floors above. The relaunch saw Gladrags move into a new era of Fashion Merchandise, moving up to the middle market bracket and specialising in occassionwear. This proved to be a turning point in the business, expanding onto the 1st floor and attracting new customers from far and wide.
Due to the great success of our Luton store, our St Albans store opened and followed the same firm business principles and soon became very popular and today has a very loyal customer base. The store recently moved from its High Street position to the Heritage Close shopping precinct and has recently undergone a refurbishment program in 2005. Although relatively new in Gladrags history, our St Albans store is fast becoming the newest chapter in our ongoing quest to be the best fashion retailer, offering quality clothes at affordable prices.
